The Pow Wow Pond Ledges RollVic fundraiser was held down at Princes Park yesterday (another in Owen Parry’s line of World Mocking Series event names) and despite a gloomy looking Sunday (damn Melbourne) there was a great turnout. We also learned about Danny’s frisbee skills, which happened to be aimed at Frenchman Zack DeBlaize for most of the day…

Finally got a chance to take some photos. Was good to get back into it and was the first outing since I got my camera back from repair. Owen should be doing a little writeup about the event shortly.

Thanks to Owen and RollVic for organising another chilled out event!

Southbank, Melbourne – Feb 2010

For the past 3 weeks, Tuesday nights in Melbourne have seen a decent gathering of rollers the Riverslide skatepark. If you’re up for some chill sessions you should come down and check it out.

During this time we’ve also made some new international friends by the name of Dave (USA) and Zack (Europe) – So shout outs to those guys.

Last night a few of us went for a look down Southbank by the Yarra river, Unfortunately I didn’t have my sync cables fso was relying on the SB-26′s optical slave function..

Melton Skatemeet, January 2010

Robbie Pitts is back to organising regular skatemeets in Melbourne again. The first stop for January is Melton Skatepark. We had about 5-6 cars come out and was great to see everyone tearing the park up – Especially in the 30-something degree heat. We also headed down to Melton Reservoir. Epic views. Lots of concrete. One bad crash.

Victorian Inline Titles POSTPONED

Headed down to Ballarat with Tim today and in typical Victorian fashion the weather got the best of the competition. After a decent morning of practice runs and a few patchy showers, a nice storm decided to roll through. The event has been postponed and details will be announced soon.

During the warmups while it was dry still, Tim asked me to setup for this invert he wanted to do…Reeled off a bunch of shots and this was the result..Inverted fastplant, tapping the corner of the box too…oldschool tech!

Apologies for the lack of updates during the past two weeks. The weather in Melbourne has been BLOODY HOT..and I hate skating in 35c weather.

Rampfest with Tom and Golder

As promised. Went to Rampfest today armed with my new CyberSync triggers to get a decent sequence shot.

Tom decided that a disaster back savannah would be sequence worthy..and it was huge! Loved how he crosses his legs WAY early. Came out pretty good. Cybersync’s did well triggering away at 6+ fps with no misfires. I also put my D.I.Y clamp to the test and it passed with flying colours. Definately need to use some Loctite on the bolts for my D.I.Y spigot as they came a little loose on a few occasions.

Mr. Golder decided to snake in as well..resulting in this gaze inducing 540 over the box.

Johnny Inverted

30 degrees C. The warmest it’s been in six months.

A tin shed is not exactly the best place to be, unless you like roasting. After a rather nice and hot spring Melbourne day Rampfest was a little quiet. I mean I definitely was NOT inclined to strap the boots on. I snagged this shot of Johnny while the sun was still out, strobeless, going for the natural light look and trying to get in closer comapred to the same invert that I got a few weeks ago. I think I prefer this one. What do you think?

The Ring of Fire (See here on Google Maps) – A skatepark in the western suburbs of Melbourne, located in at the 234 Fun Galore complex (Fun City Go-karts place)

After you navigate the 3 flights of stairs you arrive at this pretty awesome kidney bowl – two pool ledges, wallride, nice coping and made of MDF – gentle to falls. The only downside, being up on the top floor of this old mill, is that the roof trusses are pretty damn close..better get your helmet on. The second floor also contains a smallish street setup, but if you come here..you’re here for level three.

The light was pretty horrible, and only having one flash at my disposal tonight I decided to bounce the flash off parts of the almost white roof – bigger light source for a less harsh, softer light. Didn’t end up working too badly either as I’m pretty happy with the way these shots came out. Im usually pretty easy going on my strobes typically using 1/16th and above – however as im bouncing the light here, needed to bump it up a bit.

You could argue Tom’s makio shouldn’t really make the cut due to part of his skate cut off from the table…But meh, I liked it.
